You never realize just how little time you have until you try and work a photoshoot into a busy senior year. Before you know it, the school is sending out reminders that senior photos are due for the yearbook - and you haven't scheduled anything yet.
Deadlines
Check with your school to find out the yearbook deadline for picture submission. In Vermont, many are in the fall which is also the busiest time for photographers and may be more difficult to book a last-minute session.
The Theme
Most likely you already have some idea of the types of photos you want to take to commemorate your senior year. Outfits play an integral role in the overall style of your shoot. If you want to wear a beautiful boho dress for your senior session, shooting in Vermont winters may not get the look you are dreaming of. On the flip side, if you are a snowboarder and want to include that - you may want to book your session your junior year. Get a clear idea of the style you would prefer before you choose a date for your photo session.
The Location
Your location will also fit in with the theme of your shoot. However, not all locations and settings look good at certain times of the year. Want an urban shoot? This works at almost any time of the year. Prefer to take photos at a local park? Spring and fall create the best backdrops.
Time
Take a look at your calendar. Do you have a busy summer planned or summer sport programs? The average senior session is two hours, not including pre-planning and shopping for the perfect outfit.
Your Photographer
Search for a photographer that specializes in seniors or portraits. Once you have your ideal season and theme, you will want to check in with them about getting on their calendar. Most photographers will require a retainer to hold your spot.
